...It's Our Birthday
The International Internet Genealogy Society (IIGS) grew from a proposal made by Dr Brian Leverich and started on 15 May 1997. We now have members from all over the world and are building a collection of services and tools to help genealogists every where.
Among the services now in place for our members are regular themed Internet Relay Chat (IRC) meetings, IIGS University and Library, a monthly IIGS Newsletter in multiple language versions as well as services offered by the IIGS Global Village such as the IIGS Members Web Ring and an index to world wide BDM Exchanges.
What's on
A full day of celebration is planned. Online genealogists worldwide are invited to participate. IIGS will be offering to help with queries via e-mail, IRC, and ICQ with IIGS members holding the fort at the IIGS server at irc.rootsweb.com port 6667 or 7000, #genealogy. Through the mediums of the Internet, Email, and IRC, you may pick the brains of the bravest genealogists on the Internet. We will be here waiting for your dead ends, brick walls, and other questions. Queries will be accepted via a special Queries Web Page as well as on IRC. Full details can be obtained at our Hear Ye Page.
The celebration will begin noon GMT 14 May to noon 16
May GMT, at our IRC server hosted by Rootsweb.
