IIGS Newsletter - September 1998
Hi, I am the host of Rosch Chat on Rootsweb and my name is Kelly Mitchell ketchup@bmlive.com I set up a chat channel, with the help of "JohnD", the IIGS IRC liaison, on the Rootsweb IRC server primarily for discussion and research on the village of Rosch, Bukovina.
I created the channel to provide better communication with a group of researchers. The group started with just four people, but grew to 20 people within a five- to six-month period. It became apparent that we were all related in some way and I thought that it would be interesting to set up a real time chat.
The chat is used to discuss and exchange family stories, information, routes of immigration, surnames, and general genealogy.
I have had several successful meetings with lots of wonderful information exchanged and, of course, a lot of great chat.
I have set up a webpage for our group which provides easy access to logs of the meetings, a link to the mIRC page, and instructions to set up mIRC. I also have included information for subscribing to the Rosch-mailing list, which includes listings of some important email messages as well as an archive of the mailing list.
The page is located at: http://members.xoom.com/KellyM/czergroup.html
Rosch chat takes place every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. MDT (Mountain Daylight Time). Chats usually last for about an hour and a half. I am hoping to have a few theme Tuesday chats where chatters can focus on certain surnames or compare notes on family members.
On our last chat night, we exchanged information on genetic traits such as those leading to diseases like diabetes.
To join the Rosch chat, you must log onto Rootsweb IRC server at irc.rootsweb.com, and then join the chat channel #Czer-group. If you have any problems, please contact me for further instructions.
All are welcomed to come in and join the chat every Tuesday night!
