Some of you may have noticed a couple of new channels at times..
#Rootsweb-Admins:
As announced by "MadDoc" on the Rootsweb-Admin list: "...a place for the users of Rootsweb to be able to find someone who may be able to help them out." It is not a scheduled channel in the sense that it is set for particular times but whenever admin types are on irc, it will be open. It is both a place for asking questions and also a place for admin types to talk their techie stuff without disturbing the #genealogy channel. Regulars there so far are MadDoc, Elsi, MaMaT ... it is a place to go ask for help on technical and/or administrative items for Rootsweb in general.#usgenweb etc
Recent messages on some of the IIGS lists have mentioned the establishment of the USGenWeb-XXXX channels for meetings of various arms of the UsGenWeb. Infrequently you might also see a plain vanilla #usgenweb which would be a temporary channel set up for a quick discussion often between different arms.#IIGS-htmlhelp
Hosted primarily by Holly Timm, this channel is for beginners to experts alike to meet and discuss how to's, tips, and troubleshooting of genealogy related web page authoring.
Historians & Webmasters Teams
Historians and Webmasters Teams take great delight in announcing the addition of archive and ftp space on our iigs.org server!
The IIGS now has several directories established and logs and various historian files uploaded to this space. All IIGS teams are invited to use this space and to request uploading of files or logs for retrieval purposes.
The URL for anyone wishing to visit the ftp site is:
ftp://www.iigs.org/pub/iigs/archives/ The transfer of IRC Team Channel logs has been completed and they can now be found at
ftp://www.iigs.org/pub/iigs/archives/IRC/ for the following themed and regular genealogy meets:
I have also transferred historians files to:
- #australia
- #benelux
- #html-help
- #ireland
- #ontario-quebec
- #uk-meets
- #us-mil
ftp://www.iigs.org/pub/iigs/archives/Historians/
Here you will find the history of the formation of the IIGS from its' beginning to September 1997. These archives replace the original archives and ftp site at The Olive Tree.I hope all teams will take advantage of this space (thanks Ben for getting it set up the way I wanted - I know it was a pain!!) and gather some historical files, important data, logs of meetings, etc. and have it uploaded.
