IIGS™ Queries
by Judy Kelble

We are pleased to announce that IIGS™ is now in the International query business. Our site link is snuggled right between the Newsletter and Journal links on the IIGS™ Home page. We are placed here to help remind you to check the new queries at the same time you read your IIGS™ Newsletter. We hope to publish each set of queries on the same schedule as the newsletter is published.

It is the mission of the IIGS™ Queries Team to provide to the International genealogical community, particularly members of the International Internet Genealogical Society, sets of indexed queries in all Roman-alphabet languages in order to facilitate communication between researchers world-wide.

The IIGS™ Queries Team hopes to become the preferred provider for International genealogical queries by fostering sound query-writing practices and encouraging inter-personal genealogical communications. New ways of indexing these queries and coordination with other committees to improve their usefulness are under investigation. At present, we are using Patty Lindsay's shareware program CCHelper to produce the Query pages. We hope everyone will like the results so far.

If you are looking to place a query for a country other than where you now live, this is the place. We welcome all of your International queries. We especially hope the International community will begin sending us queries in their native tongues. We will NOT translate these queries, but most names and dates are usually recognizable no matter what the language. So send on your queries to the IIGS™ Queries Team. Our committee page gives more explanations for what we are doing and why.

Please refer to the How-To section of our site. This will give you very simple straight-forward instructions on what to include in your query and where to send it. By following these simple instructions, you will help to make life simpler for all concerned.

Remember: queries -must- be International in character, that is, from someone in one county seeking information from/about another country. Good luck with your submissions!
