Editor's Note
by Wally Garchow, Editor Pro Tempore

"Where's Andi MacDonald?," I can hear you asking. "And who's this interloper Wally-person anyway?"

Andi MacDonald and associate editor Marthe Arends have resigned from the IIGS™ Newsletter Team. Marthe is much involved with the Virtual University and another newsletter. Andi's husband has been seriously ill and she must attend to him and other matters. They are sorely missed. We all certainly wish them well in their future endeavors. But mostly, we owe them much for making such a good start with the IIGS™ Newsletter. The swift appearance of the first issue in June was rather astonishing. The July issue, given the events in Andi's life, was nothing less than miraculous. Thanks, Andi and Marthe, for charting the path and setting such high standards!

An "interloper" is just what I am. As maintainer of the Newsletter Team's list and the individual responsible (as liaison from the Webmaster Team) for putting the Newsletter on the Web, I very temporarily stepped in to get this August issue (composed mainly of articles prepared under Andi's supervision) in it's rightful place at the IIGS™ Web site. Beyond that, I only wish to see a new IIGS™ Newsletter Editor in place and to help in continuing what was begun so well.

You will immediately notice that the little biographies following each article are missing. Such biographies were not included with the copy for this edition and there simply was not enough time to collect them. If the contributors who appear in this issue wish to send little biographies along to me, I will add them on the Web as they come in during the month. I regret this inconvience. Send them to wally@calweb.com

For those who contributed articles which did not appear in this issue, please check with the editor about possible inclusion in another issue. Several texts were found without e-mail addresses. Some things may have been 'lost' in the transfers. Some items were passed along to the IIGS™ Journal. We'll try to do better in the future.

An editorial section was planned by the previous editor as well as the new Letters to the Editor section in this issue. I have continued as I was able with what the previous editor outlined. It is my hope that these features will be continued (though perhaps not so prominently). I especially hope that the section "IIGS™ at Work for You" with an editorial by some IIGS™ Team Leader (or an interview with a Team Leader) in each issue will be a place IIGS™ business can be reported and which the Newsletter readership will look to for news about current happenings in the organization.

Please review the new Call for Articles for new e-mail addresses for submissions and some new continuing feature ideas for future issues. Volunteers (any budding Editors out there??) are always welcome. Use the link below to the Newsletter Team if you would like to help with the IIGS™ Newsletter.
