Confidentiality
On the membership application few questions are compulsory. The information you provide will be kept in the strictest confidence as IIGS is committed to the highest possible level of personal privacy.
The Society will protect the privacy of all of its members, and no individual data or information that can be used to identify an individual will be disclosed to any third party without that individual's express written consent, unless we are required to do so by law.
IIGS uses this information at an aggregate level for statistical purposes and at that level the information may be distributed to the IIGS teams where appropriate.
Password (Required)
This is a required item so that each member will have their own password. This ensures that should we have to communicate with you for some reason about the contents of your registration, we won't inadvertently release any private information to the wrong person.
Handle (Optional)
A handle (nickname) is primarily for use on the IIGS IRC (Internet Relay Chat).
Country (Required) and Region (Optional) of Residence
The IIGS# is an international organization. We would like to know which country you are from, so we can see where our gaps are and better plan a truly international organization. The more specific item of Region is also useful for demographics but this information is optional.
Preferred Language (Optional)
Although all languages are not currently supported by the IIGS, we are adding new ones as translators become available. This optional item will help us determine languages on which we need to concentrate. If by any chance your preferred language is not listed, please include it in the Comments section at the end of the form.
Skills (Optional)
The IIGS has need of many diverse skills. The list is by no means exhaustive. If you have a skill which you would like to use for the IIGS, please say so in the comments box at the bottom of the form. We try to match people and their skills to teams needing those skills. Don't be surprised if you are asked if you would like to assist with IIGS. We need all of us working together to make this work.
Computer & Operating System (Optional)
The optional computer questions provide useful information about the
platforms and systems used by our member genealogists. The Society is concerned with reaching as many genealogists as we can. Knowing your details helps us to maintain an easily accessible Web site, and will help projects to be presented online in a readable format.
Teams(Optional)
This section of the form lists the various IIGS Teams. Here we are surveying your interests in, or current membership on, these Teams. Only one choice can be made per team but you may join, or mark interest in, any team. Please note that selecting "Already On" or "Interested In" will not make you a member of that Team.
Membership Benefits
This is the area for you to give us any suggestions as to how IIGS might better server its members. See http://www.iigs.org/membership/benefits.htm for details of existing membership benefits, such as the MRI, GenWebHelp maillist and the IIGS Members Web Ring.
Genealogical URL
Link lists of member's pages are being considered as a membership benefit/project and we may contact you about including your link on a Member's URL Directory Page.
Comments
Optional, this final text entry area is for you to add anything you think it important for IIGS to know, such as additional skills (languages), or your personal preferences for volunteer duties. You might like to describe any special needs, your occupation, genealogical experience, etc. As well as any projects you would like to see IIGS become involved with, or services we might offer to the international genealogical community.
