Meet The General Services Team

COME JOIN US!

The IIGS General Services team was created to assist other teams and committees as we work toward the goal of world-wide genealogy information available on the Internet. Our members take on a variety of assignments--some permanent, some temporary--but always challenging. You can be a valuable resource for IIGS and the genealogy community as a whole.

Expanded Directions for Contact or Mail Lists

  • "Posting" to IIGS-SERVICES-L@rootsweb.com mail list means that your email message will be received by all people subscribed to the Mail List, in this case the people listed above. Note that the word, REQUEST, is not in the address. You should only use the mail list address with "request" in it if you want to send some command (like unsubscribe) to the machine which monitors a mail list.

  • "E-mail" is an individual message to one of the people listed above (if you point your mouse at a person's name and click, an e-mail form will be created for you to fill in).

  • Our mail list postings can be distributed as either individual e-mail (List form) or as 'digest mode'--with groups of postings periodically collected and sent to you in a single larger posting with an index. (You get all the messages in digest mode, but you received them in one e-mail message.)

  • "Click" on one of the two entries below, and a subscription request will be formatted for you. Do not fill in the subject line, do not add any other words to the message except the word 'subscribe' on the first line (and spelling counts!), do not include your signature lines (if any). "Signature lines" are a comment or quote or list of your surnames, included by selecting the 'signature option' in your e-mail program. If you have never turned on that option, you don't have to worry about signature files. If you HAVE created a signature file, please turn that option off to subscribe to a mail list.

  • To subscribe to the list send only the message "subscribe" (without the quotes) to
IIGS-SERVICES-L-request@rootsweb.com (to received messages individually) or to
IIGS-SERVICES-D-request@rootsweb.com (to received messages in digest form)
